Lenox Square shoppers immersed in retail therapy can now enjoy hops between shops while they grab a quick lunch or dinner -- thanks to the opening of Peachtree Pint in the Fashion Café Food Court and a new policy designating the food court as an open-container area. The walk-up draft beer dispensary kiosk pulls 40 taps highlighting the best brews from around Georgia and the Southeast, including Creature Comforts, SweetWater Brewery, Monday Night Brewing, Scofflaw Brewing Co., Three Taverns Craft Brewery, Orpheus Brewing, Terrapin Beer Co., Cherry Street Brewing and Jekyll Brewing, plus standards including Guinness, Budweiser, Heineken and Michelob Ultra. Peachtree Pint showcases Georgia’s burgeoning microbreweries, a boon for out-of-towners eager to sip a “new” Southern brew and please locals with hometown craft brew sweethearts. The carryout bar, which offers 35 beers, one cider and four wine selections on tap, faces an array of tables, chairs and televised sports on flat screens leading some to sit and sip a spell while their other half shops for “just one more thing.” Longtime Lenox Square retailer Farshad Arshid, a Peachtree Pint owner along with Ruel Chambers and Kaan Ergun, explains, “We’re always trying to anticipate the changing needs of our shoppers…we want to further enhance the Lenox Square shopping experience.” A testimony to the mission to please, Peachtree Pint offers the extremely popular yet elusive Tropicalia IPA from Athens-based Creature Comforts brewery. Sweet tea, meet your match. Open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday hours vary.

Every day, we thank our star-studded doughnuts we’re lucky enough to eat and drink for a living and share our passion with all of you out there in Noshland. Imagine our delight when we caught wind that this Friday, September 9, is “I LOVE Food Day” – a holiday of epic-urean proportion for foodies like us. And so we give thanks, recounting recently devoured yum-yums like squid ink tagliatelle showing off calamari, crab, Fresno chilies and chives. We completely caved to OMG Hot Pockets, plumped with smoked pulled pork, mac and cheese and honey sauce. Jalapeño corn brûlée with pancetta peppered our taste buds in a sensational spicy-sweet-salty way. Thai herbs imbued heady mystique to caramelized Brussels sprouts and cauliflower while seared Kobe beef nigiri wowed our yin-yang yearnings served with ponzu, green onion, garlic chips and yuzu kosho. We licked our fingers to catch the last drops of tomato fresco, garlic, olive oil and sea salt on Spanish-style toast. And somehow we find ourselves circling back around to star-studded doughnuts, specifically a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup doughnut. For all of us at Melissa Libby & Associates, “I LOVE Food Day” speaks of love at first bite.
For the four sisters and a friend who started Food in the Airin 2014, the concept was (and remains) simple. Love food. Love travel. Landmarks and scenery are air-apparent backgrounds with food lifted up in the foreground. As in ketchup-scripted chicken tenders above the 40-yard line. An éclair over the Seine in Paris. An all-American ice cream cone standing attention at Mt. Rushmore. Getting the hang of it?

Instead of using a spa vacation to shed a few inches, Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub stay-cations this week to expand its girth by an additional 1,200 square feet, increase food and drink selections and build upon an already rewarding bar and dining experience. When the Village Place Brookhaven restaurant reopens Saturday, July 18, patrons will notice more light, dining space, bar seating, restrooms (always appreciated when enlarging bar space), live music space, televisions and more menu items coming from an expanded kitchen area. The larger kitchen will house a new wood stone pizza oven turning out nine different 12” specialty pizzas during dinner hours. Guests will be able to build their own from the restaurant’s palette of toppings and slake thirsts with the six new beers on tap, including a signature Kaleidoscope brew from Red Brick Brewing Company. More space, seats, beer, pizza et al. Now that’s a more, eh? As always, there’s plenty of free parking in the adjacent lot and complimentary valet parking.

Next time they ask “What’s pho dinner?” you’ll be prepared, thanks to our board of Pho-nomenal Dishes. Served hot or chilled, a sweet-spicy Vietnamese noodle bowl could be your summer savior. Exotic? Bun bo xao. Quick? Shortcut pho bo. Veggie? Coconut veggie soup or bok choy-and-cauliflower pho with roasted tofu. Life in the slow lane? Slow-cooker rare beef pho. More noodles? Vietnamese charbroiled pork vermicelli. In Atlanta, you’ll find the ingredients in your supermarket, but a pho-ray into one of the many international markets around town will really entice you to go with the pho.

Bantam + Biddy and Chick-a-Biddy are sporting the latest look in wall and window coverings: big, bold puzzle pieces. Help them finish the job. Donate to the Autism Speaks Puzzle Piece Campaign this month at all four Bantam + Biddy locations (Ansley, Crescent Avenue, Lenox Square and Avalon) and Chick-a-Biddy in Atlantic Station and receive a large, colorful puzzle piece. Pen in a name and a message and add it to each restaurant’s collection of pieces plastering windows and walls in support of Autism Speaks. Aiding good causes comes as naturally to these friendly eateries as frying up all-natural chicken and creating the delicious regionally inspired dishes guests love. Restaurant co-owners Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere say come on over to Bantam + Biddy and Chick-a-Biddy for tender chicken and tender-hearted Autism Speaks puzzle piece donations. All money raised through puzzle piece donations goes to nonprofit Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, for funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism.

We
often take our legs and feet for granted...until a prosthesis-clad Peachtree
Road Race runner bounds past, giving us at least 5K to mull over how much
they've endured and persevered. Since being diagnosed with stage 3 pleomorphic
sarcoma cancer in 2012, Michael Bryan has
persevered through chemo, radiation, surgery, months of rehabilitation, the
removal of his left leg at the hip, the addition of a prosthetic leg in its
stead plus more rehab and therapy. Medical expenses have piled up beyond
insurance allowances for Michael and wife Lelia, who had opened Vino Venue
three weeks before the diagnosis. Vino Venue/The Atlanta Wine School,
Flavors magazine and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine are collaborating
to help out by hosting a Friends of Michael Bryan
FUNdraising benefit, and The Giving Kitchen is providing a matching grant. Block out
the hours of 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, February 8 to hang out at Vino Venue in the
Georgetown Shopping Center located off I-285 at Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. Top
chefs collaborate in the wine school's kitchen, and guests will savor a
contrast of sushi and Brazilian "low 'n slow" charcoal-grilled meats
along with fine wines and craft beers. A silent auction, raffle and bottle pull
play out over the course of the afternoon. Buy tickets online, $75 per person.

Interesting how seasonal eating complements our hankerings. Winter's cold spells send us seeking foods entrenched with depth and flavors that warm souls and bellies yet light enough to entice a brisk walk rather than entering hibernation mode. Marlow's Tavern is winter ready, showcasing seasonal ingredients in revamped classics and new menu items. The crispy chicken stack, long a favorite, now snuggles alongside Parmesan-barley risotto with caramelized mirepoix, seared wild mushrooms, sautéed spinach and roasted thyme gravy. Beef eaters will rave over the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness of the crispy short rib with jalapeño and corn grits, sautéed kale and red wine demi reduction; and the grilled "center cut" filet with roasted fingerling potato, seared butternut squash and a red wine shallot reduction. Cold seas yield more riches for this time of year: pan-seared snapper with celeriac purée, asparagus, tomato fondue and parslied olive oil; and Marlow's popular lump crabcake, served with baby arugula, grapefruit, pickled onion, fresh avocado and jalapeño to heat up your palate. Sweet and zesty citrus shines in the new lemon olive oil cake -- a moist, spongy cake topped with fresh grapefruit, vanilla syrup and candied orange. Rumor has it that an old family recipe inspired this slice of sunny Italy on a plate. Iffy that Santa's leaving a Cancun escape in your stocking? Who cares! Get away to your neighborhood Marlow's Tavern where the glad-to-see-you vibe, a new menu to explore and a full bar shaking up tricky drinks warm your heart, and you won't have to try on swimsuits in winter.
