Get Mooovin’ to Article 14 for Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Dinner with Cheese Expert Gabe Goodlatt July 8

More than 15 years ago, Sweet Grass Dairy founders Al and Desiree Wehner decided to let cows be cows on their family run Thomasville, Georgia farm. Their Jersey girls continue to graze their way through a rotation of grassy pastures, yielding pure, sweet-tasting milk at day’s end. Now cheese lovers -- locally and nationally -- enjoy these world-class cheeses crafted from the ground up. Article 14 in Midtown invites you to savor the pure flavors of these artisan cheeses and meet Gabe Goodlatt of Sweet Grass Dairy at this month’s four-course cheese dinner with wine pairings on July 8. $45 per person (not including tax or gratuity). The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. Reservations: 404-443-8432.

What’s New on Pinterest

It’s hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Throw everything else on the grill. We mean everything. Bacon-wrapped corn on the cob and bacon-wrapped cheese-stuffed burgers, shrimp satay, balsamic roasted tomatoes, veggie panini, sweet potato quesadillas, rum-soaked grilled pineapple, s’mores pizza, strawberry shortcake skewers. Even donuts deserve a spot on the grill. C’mon baby, light the fire and Get to Grillin’ now.

What’s New on Pinterest? Bacon!

Is bacon your beacon? Follow our smoked and cured link to Pass the Bacon, where the crispy strips work their way into every meal. Wrapped cheddar egg bites and maple bourbon bacon jam (smear on your favorite biscuits) squeal “Good morning!” Bacon Parmesan gougeres (cheese puffs) and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus disappear from the appetizer tray. Bacon Brussels sprouts, bacon and potato “roses” and bacon-brown sugar pork tenderloin hog the dinner plate. Addictive personalities, whip up candied bacon chocolate chip cookies and maple caramel bacon crack for dessert -- if you dare. The bacon fat candle is good to the last dripping.

Article 14 Monthly Cheese Dinner Features Many Fold Farm Sheep Milk Cheeses May 13

Around 200 sheep and 800 chickens cavort on Many Fold Farm, situated in the Chattahoochee Hill Country about an hour southwest of Article 14. (View a daily dose of cute on the Many Fold LambCam.) Many Fold owners Ross and Rebecca ventured to Vermont to soak up knowledge and scale the cheesemaking learning curve before raising ewes to milk for their own farmstead cheeses -- cheeses that have been mentioned in Garden & Gun magazine. For anyone who’s had the wool pulled over their eyes into thinking all cheese comes via cow or goat, this month’s cheese dinner at Article 14 lends a ewe-some chance to sample Many Fold’s organic sheep milk cheeses as part of a four-course dinner with wine pairings. Gather up some bits of wisdom from an American Cheese Society speaker during the evening. $45 per person (not including tax or gratuity). Make reservations online or call 404-443-8432.

Friday Forecast Calls for Sunset Wine and Cheese Pairings at Ray's on the River

I'll be honest, I am not a fan of this cold weather. That's why when I saw Friday's forecast calling for sunshine and warmer temperatures, I immediately began making plans for the weekend. The first thing on my list is to visit Ray's on the River for their Friday night Sunset Wine & Cheese pairings. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., the Sandy Springs restaurant is pouring hand-selected wines and offering plenty of cheese to go with that whine  wine.

The cost is $25 per person and includes tax and gratuity - gorgeous sunset views of the Chattahoochee River are free of charge.

Now, Everyone Say "CHEESE"!!

For those of us who truly love cheese, the question is not “Who moved my cheese?” but to where did they move it? If the cheese is artisanal cheese handcrafted at Southeastern artisan dairies, then it’s most likely made its way to Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery just north of Dahlonega (one of my favorite brunch spots). The winery is celebrating its sixth annual “Artisan Cheese Month” beginning August 3 with a special Sunday vineyard luncheon buffet. Summer Sundays are a wonderful time to enjoy brunch and good times among the vines in the North Georgia Mountains. And let’s not forget the Boegner family’s wonderful, award-winning estate wines crafted in the European style at their winery on the Dahlonega Plateau. Sunday brunch is $30 per person (excluding wine, tax and gratuity), and seating times are at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. All Wolf Mountain wines are priced separately and will be available by the glass or bottle. Advance reservations are required; call 706-867-9862. 180 Wolf Mountain Trail in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Will Earning A Guinness World Record Be Hard Cheese?

Will Whole Foods Market cheesemongers make more than one wise crack when they “crack” open hundreds of wheels of 24-month-aged, hand-selected Parmigiano Reggiano at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, April 12? Wielding the five knives from Italy’s Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano that comprise the traditional cheese-cracking tool set, a cheese pro at each of the 270 stores will simultaneously break into an 85-lb. wheel of artisan Parmigiano Reggiano in a carving and portioning procedure that eats up about a half hour.

Let’s hope for “grate” news that Whole Foods Markets will take over The Guinness World Record™ for “Most Parmigiano Reggiano Wheels Ever Cracked” at the same time. Atlanta-area stores will be handing out recipes that highlight Parmigiano Reggiano’s subtle bite and sweet nuttiness during the cracking event. Buy some wines to go-with: Italian wines are on sale throughout April!

True Parmigiano Reggiano hails from just one region of northern Italy that includes Reggio Emilia, Parma, Modena and portions of Bologna and Mantua. A seal of authenticity marks each wheel. The cherished cheese is a testimony to the area’s culinary history, having been made and aged by artisans in the same way for almost 800 years! No wonder Whole Foods Market cheese buyers look forward to their purchasing trip . . . and we relish the results!
