“Burgers & Brews” Stars, Grilling Contest Wins Stripes (and a Big Green Egg) at Marlow’s Tavern

Salute summer at Marlow’s Tavern’s “Burgers & Brews” celebration, going on through August 1. Chomp into Marlow’s signature gourmet burgers, chill over craft beers and vie to win a coveted Big Green Egg (BGE) or Marlow’s gift cards.

Grill thrill seekers, share that recipe (the one friends rave about) in the seventh annual Marlow’s Tavern Grilling Recipe Contest for a chance to win a BGE, a $200 Marlow’s Tavern gift card or a $100 gift card. Can’t win if you don’t try; submit at
www.marlowstavern.com through July 31. No purchase necessary; one entry per person or email address. Marlow’s Tavern co-founder and executive chef John C. Metz will judge all recipes and announce winners on September 10 with a taste-testing party at the Dunwoody location.

Contemplate your recipe while relishing signature gourmet, all-natural and perfectly seasoned burgers on Marlow’s “Burgers & Brews” menu. Suggestions include the Classic Burger Dip, piling on thinly sliced prime rib, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, romaine lettuce and a Roma tomato or the bruiser of a Black & Blue Burger sporting creamy Gorgonzola and Applewood-smoked bacon. Bypassing beef? Opt for the Naked Chicken Burger of all-natural Joyce Farms ground chicken, mozzarella, provolone, baby arugula, Roma tomato and red onion. Look for rotating burger du jour specials such as the “Chicken Fried” Steak Burger, the Colorado Lamb Burger or the wagyu beef Royale with Cheese Burger. Other specials include Beer & Cheese Soup; Red Devils house-made deviled eggs with spicy horseradish, fresh herbs, Dijonnaise and toasty Parmesan; and Loaded Burbank (potato) “Skins.” Celebratory craft beers abound to buddy up with burgers: Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA, Sierra Nevada Otra Vez, Eventide Kölsch Ale, Wild Heaven Emergency Drinking Beer, Red Hare Radler SPF and Westbrook One Claw Rye.

While at Marlow’s, prep to enter the Big Burger Bite Contest by snapping a picture of yourself biting into a Marlow’s burger then posting it to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MarlowsBurgerBite. A $100 gift card awaits the media-savvy winner so snap to it.

Bacon-wrapped corn on the cob and bacon-wrapped cheese-stuffed burgers, shrimp satay, balsamic roasted tomatoes, veggie panini, sweet potato quesadillas, rum-soaked grilled pineapple, s’mores pizza, strawberry shortcake skewers. Even donuts deserve a spot on the grill. C’mon baby, light the fire and Get to Grillin’ now.

Warm Weather Quick Picks at Atlanta Eateries

Good riddance outerwear, hello tank tops and Top-Siders. Atlanta restaurants hear your roar, and they’re ready with tall cocktails and summery fare. Here’s a punch list of some newbies:

Article 14 in Midtown has an invigorating melon cooler featuring Double Cross vodka, watermelon, lime and a red pepper flake ($12).

The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill offers beach-house seafood favorites such as lobster egg rolls with mango sweet chili sauce; a house-made, quarter-pound crab and shrimp burger; Coca-Cola BBQ grilled salmon topped with house-made barbecue sauce; and a Buffalo fried shrimp po’boy ($9.95-$20.95).

FLIP burger boutique adds a shrimp po-boyger, a fried shrimp patty served with shredded lettuce, tomato, pickleback slaw and spicy rémoulade ($12.50). (Not available at Poncey-Highlands.)

Marlow’s Tavern boasts a tasty trifecta -- a warm Brie fondue starter consisting of melting Brie, Swiss, mascarpone, Chardonnay and buttery ciabatta ($8) and a grilled turkey burger featuring Golden Legacy Farms turkey ($9.50) or crisp red snapper with udon noodles, Thai basil and miso soy broth ($17.50) as entrées.

Ray’s Restaurants (Ray’s in the City, Ray’s on the River and Ray’s at Killer Creek) are places to lunch on lobster, as in the luscious lobster cobb salad or the lobster roll featuring Maine lobster salad ($19 each).

SkyLounge atop the Glenn Hotel serves an intoxicating duo of a skyline view and their basil lemon margarita made with tequila, agave syrup, fresh basil leaves, lemon and salt ($8).
Umi in Buckhead adds another reason to claim status as Atlanta’s best sushi restaurant with madai carpaccio -- Japanese red snapper carpaccio, sea salt, lemon, olive oil and yuzu kosho ($15).

Nashville's Humming Now that FLIP burger boutique is Opening January 21 f

FLIP burger boutique patties up restaurant number five this month, opening its first Nashville location on Wednesday, January 21. FLIP creative director and television personality Richard Blais is the man behind the plan, same as at the Atlanta and Birmingham locations. FLIP Nashville chef Chris Cunningham and general manager Jason DeSpain welcome guests to enjoy FLIP's high-quality burgers, unique combinations and excellent service at lunch and dinner daily, served inside or out on the patio (weather permitting). Ho, ho! Light-hearted FLIP repurposes space in a former Hostess bakery warehouse, emitting a bun-tiful high-energy new life amid mod red and white decor. Menu items rotate with seasonal produce accessibility and feature creative starters and sides ($3.50-$12), salads ($6-$10), about 20 burger varieties ($7.50-$14) and Blais' signature nitrogen-infused dessert-type milkshakes ($5) and liquor-laced milkshakes ($10, adults only). Fun yet sophisticated FLIP burgers include the Earth + Turf mushroom and beef blend patty; the Southern, a chicken-fried beef patty with pimento cheese, bread and butter pickles and Coca-Cola ketchup; a chickpea Fauxlafel with pickled beets and pickled red onion; chorizo-spiced pork with hash browns, manchego and a fried egg; or the Shrimp, a blackened shrimp patty with tempura-fried lemon and Cajun-aise. Add a side of sweet potato tots with burnt marshmallow foam or crispy duck confit nuggets with maple-oy to your RBQ Angus beef and pulled brisket burger -- or protein pack a salad by adding a burger patty or seared chicken. An edgy drink menu yields beer, wine and specialty cocktails. Nashville's new FLIP burger boutique, located at 4111 Charlotte Avenue in the Sylvan Park neighborhood, offers ample free parking.
