Star Grazing

Celebrities scream for ice cream just as much as the rest of us, especially when there’s a Sweet Charlie’s nearby. Chad Michael Murray and family recently stopped by the Buckhead Sweet Charlie’s store, and his wife and son split an order of the handmade vanilla ice cream rolls all spiffy with sprinkles. Seems Ludacris is ready for S’more Please, his combo of choice when ready to rap and roll on two recent Sweet Charlie’s visits with his wife and daughters.

Get Pumped for Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream at Sweet Charlie’s

Pumpkins are rolling across North Georgia mountains, around South Georgia farms, passing through Atlanta pumpkin patches…and rushing through the doors of Sweet Charlie’s to treat Atlantans to seasonal pumpkin spice ice cream. Fall’s harbinger of Halloween fun and serious pumpkin pie-eyeing is on the move at Buckhead’s haven for hand-rolled ice cream. Sweet Charlie’s talented team deftly blends organic pumpkin puree, graham crust, ground spice and their dreamy ice cream base together then spreads the heavenly mixture out on a frozen surface. Faster than you can say “Frost is on the pumpkin,” these fro-pros are rolling up spirals of the pumpkin-y confection and sliding luscious ice cream logs into a cup. What a treat! Spoon into your pumpkin spice served straight up in a cup ($7, includes unlimited toppings) or as a Tall Charlie® on Sweet Charlie’s signature oven-baked glazed doughnut. Watch this video clip to see how pumpkins roll Sweet Charlie’s style -- then hurry in before this limited-time-only flavor blend rolls away.

Star Grazing

Clear skies or not, stars continue to appear at some of our favorite restaurants and sweet spots. Band members from heavy metal Black Label Society were recently spotted at The Katharine brasserie in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Rapper and hip-hopper Waka Flocka Flame dropped in on Sweet Charlie’s in Buckhead. Yes, he downed his hand-rolled, made-to-order ice cream before his famed name of “Flame” could melt it.

Star Grazing

Sweet Charlie’s is where they roll. We’re talking about Atlanta Falcons/Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank, Atlanta Hawks player Kent Bazemore, Atlanta Braves players Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla, Ryan Howard and Nick Markakis and Georgia Tech head basketball coach Josh Pastner -- all of whom were spotted at Buckhead’s hottest ice cream shop. Perhaps they were fascinated by the wrist technique displayed by the Sweet Charlie’s crew expertly rolling made-to-order ice cream on an arctic-cold slab. Score!

Go Back to S’cool with Sweet Charlie’s PB&J, Savings and Rewards

You won’t find Sweet Charlie’s PB&J in a lunchbox. The Buckhead ice cream shop salutes the back-to-school crowd with this frozen confection destined for head-of-the-class status. Sweet Charlie’s syllabus shows several other specials to chillax the homework load. Students can subtract $2 off their purchase, be it a PB&J roll or any other Sweet Charlie’s treat, over the dates of Monday, Aug. 14 through Friday, Aug. 18. To rev up school spirit and some good-humored competition, Sweet Charlie’s has created a school spirit board. Add a star next to your school’s name during each shop visit (school write-ins welcomed). The school sporting the most stars when the competition closes Nov. 1 wins a holiday party catered by Sweet Charlie’s. And, in this case, brain freeze can be a good incentive to work hard because all A’s on a report card merits a free ice cream through Sweet Charlie’s Good Grades Reward Program (must show report card to redeem, limit one per student). Yes, school buses, and Sweet Charlie’s, are on a roll.

Star Grazing

Atlanta Braves baseman Freddie Freeman is back in the game following a wrist injury. Therapy possibly included ice cream because the ball slugger was recently seen catching the hand-rolled creams at Sweet Charlie’s in Buckhead. Could inspire a new flavor, “batter up!”

Philadelphians and Mid-Atlantic beachgoers rave about Sweet Charlie’s. Atlantans are experiencing the same ‘screamy sensation with the spring opening of Atlanta’s first Sweet Charlie’s shop at 3872 Roswell Road in Buckhead. The Sweet Charlie’s pros hand roll ice cream and frozen sensations to order
and serve in a multitude of base, flavor and topping combinations. Hand rolling on a super cold surface (below 20 degrees Fahrenheit) gives the cold shoulder to the need for added stabilizers, emulsifiers or preservatives. Opt for a base of premium ice cream, nonfat yogurt or vegan Nada-Moo. Choose flavor themes such as Rise & Shine Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Off Duty coffee and doughnut, Kiss & Tell mint Oreo, Wonder Filled Oreo, S’more Please, Namaste strawberry cheesecake, Love Park chocolate/pretzel/peanut butter, So Cal acai/honey/coconut/banana, Monkey See Monkey Do Nutella/banana or sinful Death by Chocolate. Next, decide between rolled and slipped into a cup or laid out on a signature Sublime glazed doughnut. Go top-it crazy (they’re included) with blueberries, bananas, strawberries, roasted marshmallow, honey, chocolate or caramel drizzles, whipped cream, sliced almonds, Oreo cookies, graham crackers, M&M’s or rainbow sprinkles. The Thai-inspired frozen phenomenon wears a $7 price tag, including tax and unlimited toppings. The Buckhead store rolls its signature creams beginning at 12:30 p.m. daily until 10:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Sweet Charlie’s Rolls Ice Cream Experience into Buckhead Late Spring

Sweet Charlie’s, the Philadelphia-based/Thai-inspired, rolled ice cream and yogurt phenomenon rolls its first-ever franchise location into Buckhead (3872 Roswell Road, next to Superica) this spring. The young brand features the hand-rolled, made-to-order dessert sensation Forbes recently dubbed “the cool new trend in Asian sweets.” Sweet Charlie’s is the brainchild of 19-year-old entrepreneur Kyle Billig, who learned about Thai-rolled ice while watching a video and teamed up with older brother Jacob to Americanize the treat. Order and watch American showmanship kick in to create a one-of-a-kind treat based on either premium ice cream, nonfat yogurt or the company’s Nada-Moo vegan option, served in a cup or one of Sweet Charlie’s signature oven-baked glazed donuts and capped with one of its signature flavors or toppings. Because the creation-making surface is below 20 degrees, there is no need to add stabilizers, emulsifiers and preservatives. According to CFO Steve Billig, “In Philadelphia, people stand in line in the freezing cold for our rolled ice cream.” Wow. Just imagine the thrill for Sunbelt ice s’creamers!
