Looking for a little adventure with your festivities this year? Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar in Virginia-Highland is offering a round-trip bus ride from the restaurant to SunTrust Park for the Braves game and fireworks show on July 4. It’s a Fourth of July Terminus City Takeover at Communion, the Mexican-inspired backyard behind Revival, Kevin Gillespie’s family-style restaurant in Decatur. This festive, all-ages event has barbecue, beer, family-friendly entertainment and games on July 4 from noon to 6 p.m. or until food runs out. Gillespie's Terminus City is serving up chopped whole hog barbecue for $15 and vegetarian-friendly pimento cheese for $12. Start red, white and bluesin’ early – HOBNOB is opening for brunch on July 3 at 10:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. on July 4. The AJC Peachtree Road Race runs right by the Midtown restaurant, so it's the perfect spot to spectate (or quit running and start drinking). Even though Kevin Gillespie is keeping the meaty details of Terminus City when and where-abouts tucked under the bun, he’s eager for Atlantans to go ahead and sneak in a taste of what’s to come. At Atkins Park Tavern in Virginia Highland, a pig is roasting in a China box in preparation for the 3rd Annual Pig Roast on July 4. A 70 - 80 lb. Riverview Farms Berkshire pig will go into La Caja China, a plywood box lined with metal. Glowing charcoal is heaped on top, and four hours later the pork is fork-tender perfect for the $15-per-person "Meat & Three" deal. Guests can choose pork and/or Big Green Egg-smoked all-natural chicken; three sides of your choice -- house-baked beans with smoked bacon, grilled corn on the cob, Atkins Park's famous potato salad, creamy cole slaw, vine-ripe tomato salad, braised pole beans and macaroni and cheese; Texas toast, three house-made barbeque sauces and a choice of Southern banana pudding or homemade peach ice cream.
