Have a Ball at Adopt a Golden Atlanta 2014 Golden Open on Monday, June 2

Golf or tennis? The Adopt a Golden Atlanta 2014 Golden Open tosses both options your way on Monday, June 2. Chase your preference on the greens or courts of the Marietta Country Club. A golf  scramble doles out prizes to three winning teams and to individuals for closest to the pin, long drive and hole in one. Registration and practice opens at 8 a.m.; continental breakfast and shotgun start follow at 9 a.m. and a 19^th hole cookout, awards, raffle and silent auction begin at 2 p.m. Sign up online.

Tennis  pros may prefer the AGA tennis benefit, a round robin format awarding prizes to first, second and third places. A noon lunch also nets an awards presentation, silent auction and a raffle. Register here. If you can’t make it, you can always pitch in and make a donation.

Sliders for Goldens at Bantam & Biddy on Monday, April 15

 

Silas is an Adopt A Golden Atlanta orphan. He's perused the slider menu for Monday night at  Bantam + Biddy and chosen the chopped liver slider. He knows that Lance Gummere and Shaun Doty are both big dog lovers and can't wait to give them big slurpy kisses for donating ten percent of April 15's proceeds to help golden retriever orphans just like him. Come in after 5 pm and eat a few sliders for the cause. Or order off the regular menu. Just be sure to stop by and help the cause. It'll feel as good as a belly rub!

Living in the Virginia-Highlands area, there are plenty of options for me to choose from when I'm craving a burger. One of my frequent picks is Yeah! Burger, also a favorite of Bon Appetit Magazine. Every Tuesday at the Virginia-Highland location is Feel Good Tuesday, with 10 percent of sales going to a local charity or school. Tomorrow's percentage of sales will benefit Adopt a Golden Atlanta, the second largest golden retriever rescue in the nation. Come in for lunch or dinner and choose from grass-fed beef and bison, all natural turkey, chicken breast and veggie burgers, hot dogs and salads. Make sure to reward yourself for your charitable donation with this month's featured milkshake, French toast and bacon!

Dogwood Festival Restaurant Week Finds Atlanta Diners With Appetites Blooming

Now that most of the pollen has been washed away, hopefully Atlantans can look forward to all the beauty of spring without the sneezing! It wouldn’t be spring in Atlanta without the pollen, or without the Dogwood Festival in Piedmont Park for that matter! The festival hits the park Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18 and we’re excited to enjoy it during its 74th year.

Does April 16 seem too far away? Well, don’t worry, you can start the springtime fun earlier! Monday, April 12 in fact, is when Dogwood Festival Restaurant Week starts up offering great deals at select Atlanta restaurants through Sunday, April 18.

RA Sushi will be offering a $25 sharing menu for two that will appeal to Asian fusion fans with a Viva Las Vegas roll, pineapple wontons, a spicy tuna roll and bowl of green tea ice cream. A tall glass of colorful Dogwood Punch celebrates festival finds and might even influence future festival art purchases!

Spice Market will be presenting a delicious three-course menu for $25 per person and includes a first course choice of chicken and coconut soup; green papaya salad with apples and candied ginger; or Market green salad with radishes, cherry tomatoes and sesame seed vinaigrette. Entrée choices include a choice of salmon in a lemongrass, peanut and noodle broth with herb salad; char-grilled chicken with kumquat-lemongrass dressing; or vegetables in green curry. Finally, choose between two desserts -- Ovaltine kulfi with caramelized banana and spice milk chocolate sauce or Vietnamese coffee ice cream.

Foodies On Foot - March 14!

We're changing our company name to mmmmmmmMLA! for one day - Sunday, March 14. That's the day of the Hunger Walk/Run 2010 and we are all walking together. Golden Gala

I love being a volunteer for the pet rescue organization, Adopt A Golden Atlanta. I do all that I can to help find the sweet Golden Retrievers (and a few Great Pyrenees) loving, forever homes.



That's why I'm helping to get the word out about their first annual Golden Gala this Saturday, February 21 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The evening's emcee with be 11 Alive's Paul Ossmann with his weather dog, Doppler. There will be a live auction, silent auction and a wonderful dinner accompanied by a program honoring the goldens helped through the program.



Tickets to the event are on sale until midnight tonight, so click here to buy them now! There will also be a Jeep raffle going on in which a 2009 will be given away at then event. Tickets can be bought online or at the event. Prince, the sweet boy to your left, thanks you!

Wine Tasting to Benefit Adopt A Golden Atlanta

Dogs don't drink wine, but we do! And that's why I'll be at the Marietta Wine Market this Saturday, September 13. They will be hosting a wine tasting to benefit Adopt A Golden Atlanta from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a volunteer, nonprofit organization that finds loving, permanent homes for Golden Retrievers to prevent them from becoming strays or heading for overpopulated shelters. I'll drink to that. Cheers!
