Special Olympics and No Kid Hungry Get Big Boost from Marlow's Tavern and Aqua blue

Guests and staff at Marlow's Tavern locations and Aqua blue Restaurant & Bar in Roswell have big hearts, and they're sharing the love with others in need. In September, the restaurants teamed up with Sterling Spoon Culinary Management to host the 15th annual Marlow's Tavern Golf Classic and raised $52,729.88 for Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA). Golf tournaments and restaurant openings have brought in more than $477,000 to SOGA since 1999, and Marlow's Tavern has been designated as a SOGA 2013 Statewide Platinum Partner. In September, Aqua blue and Marlow's Tavern locations held weeklong donation campaigns for Share Our Strength: No Kid Hungry. Each guest who made a donation received a $5 restaurant coupon for future use. Bottom line: $22,884.00 for the cause. Well done!

John C. Metz, Jr. is Good as Gold

Great service, delicious food and industry advancement must run in the family of John C. Metz, Jr. As the CEO, executive chef and co-founder of Sterling Hospitality, Metz was named winner of the Gold Plate Award by the International Foodservice Manufactures Association (IFMA). This award was much deserved, as he is also the mastermind behind the concepts of Marlow's Tavern and Aqua Blue. Metz followed in the footsteps of his father as he took his turn being chosen as one of eight operator executives to receive the prestigious IFMA Silver Plate Award, one of the most honored awards in the foodservice industry. Congrats, Metz men!

Four New Market Street Café Openings Bring Healthy Food Selections to Corporate Campuses

The same folks who have placed Marlow's Tavern locations in neighborhoods throughout the metro-Atlanta area are providing delicious morning and midday dining options at new Market Street Cafés on area corporate campuses. Sterling Spoon Culinary Management (SSCM) opened three cafés on NCR office campuses in Duluth and Suwanee on Monday, November 5 and will re-open a corporate café at The Coca-Cola Company office campus in Alpharetta on Thursday, November 15. All of the cafes are open between the hours of 7 a.m-2 p.m.
The warm and inviting eateries showcase atmosphere that strays away from the sterile office environment. Market Street Cafés are known for their fresh, farm-to-fork ingredients, made-from-scratch recipes, healthy lifestyle selections and reasonable prices. The menu is packed with pleasers for a quick breakfast or lunch ranging from sandwiches and salad staples, full-on mains such as hoisin-marinated salmon, USDA prime steaks, vegetarian dishes and accommodations for special dietary needs. 1950s are Nifty as American Inspirations for Sterling Spoon Culinary Management

Lipton onion soup mix turned dipping into a social skill in 1952. Dinner and a channel were "in" as Swanson unveiled the first frozen TV dinner in 1954. In 1956, the electric can opener was cutting-edge technology. There's a lot more to 50s chow than meets the timeline, and those mid-century inspirations have tickled the fancy of the culinary staff at Sterling Spoon Culinary Management restaurants.

Themes making a comeback during the "Nifty Fifties" promotion are "Drive-In Diner Days" entrées including roasted turkey, meatloaf frosted with mashed potatoes and turkey tetrazzini; "TV Dinner Meals" such as Swedish meatballs, American chop suey and Salisbury steak; "Happy Days Are Here Again" items such as a silver dollar slider bar, a hot dog bar and pigs in a blanket; and "Nifty Fifties" sandwich specials such as the Dagwood and fried all-beef bologna on a kaiser roll. Desserts include banana pudding, apple or pecan pie, blueberry cobbler, cherry crisp chocolate cake, Rice Krispies treats and more.

We'll definitely be back for reruns at Market Street Café locations, Bistro 191 and Sanctuary Park eateries through October 27.
