Oktoberfest Fun Brewing at Communion
When you’re munchin’ in the ATL area instead of München for Oktoberfest, oompah over to Communion, the outdoor beer garden at Kevin Gillespie’s Decatur restaurant Revival. Communion is well stocked for Oktoberfest “bier” imbibers, offering seasonal brews like Wild Heaven Craft Beers’ Autumn Defense and Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest, European-style draft and bottled beers, Old World-style wine, punches and batch-made cocktails. Hit the bright red food truck for some of the German-inspired snacks on chef Andreas Müeller’s menu then settle in at communal picnic tables or exercise your playful side over horseshoes, darts, Giant Jenga and cornhole. Euros? Dollars? Nein. Pay for drinks and snacks with tokens, $5 each, including tax and gratuity. Inside Revival, the buzz is about Southern fare, family recipes and the cornbread, recipient of Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta 2016 “Best Cornbread” designation. Outside, take a walk on the Oktoberfest side. Communion opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday evenings, weather permitting. Check the day’s status here.

We can say “danke schön” to the Germans for aspirin, glue sticks, the accordion and the Easter Bunny, to name a few. But the most fun and festive has to be Oktoberfest. Celebrate the season of indulging in beer and German food by oompah’ing over to our Oktoberfest board to discover German delights such as beer cheese spread, Jägerspätzle, strudels and bratwurst-stuffed potato skins, tips and recipes for hosting your own Oktoberfest spread and even a DIY for Oktoberfest lederhosen.

Oompah! Oktoberfest Reigns at Der Biergarten through October 30
In Atlanta, Oktoberfest is synonymous with
Der Biergarten. Now through Thursday, October 30, make
your way to this spot, which
has been named among the top beer gardens in the country by USA Today,
Fodor’s, Food & Wine and Delish.com. During this annual celebration, brews will pour and bands will play.
Every Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the bar-meister taps a keg holding the new
beer-of-the-week and pulls liters
for $9. Drink this draft from
your Oktoberfest commemorative mug, on sale for $20 with $8 refills all year
long! Get your fix of German grub by savoring the schnitzel of the week and
potato soup. Dance to the Deutsche band Die Kurtzbuam every Friday and Saturday
night from 6-9 p.m. followed by DJ Johnny until midnight.
