On Thursday, September 27, Frederick Miller, Alon's Bakery and Market's new wine director (joining Alon's from Bone's), will host Francisco Carrau of Uruguay's Carrau wineries for a wine tasting with light fare at the Dunwoody location from 7-8 p.m. $20 per person. You can register online for the event. Miller will be in the Dunwoody store every Tuesday through Saturday with weekly wine tastings and in-store samplings each day.
Speaking of vintages, Alon's is a donating sponsor for the Community Assistance Center's "A Vintage Affair" on September 29. The bakery's scrumptious Moroccan chicken sandwich will be part of the spread of foods from local restaurants that gala guests will enjoy. For the past 25 years, the Community Assistance Center (formerly known as the Community Action Center) has served those in need in the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody areas and is supported by 28 congregations of all faiths.
Attention! Good news! Oktoberfest begins September 22
in Munich, Germany and right here in Atlanta at Alon's Bakery and Market. Both Alon's locations
-- Virginia Highland and Dunwoody -- will open up their bevy of Oktoberfest
specials this Saturday and will continue the fest through Sunday, October 7.
Pick up Terrapin Pumpkin Ale and à la carte items such as chicken schnitzel,
German potato salad, braised red cabbage and apple strudel. "Wurst"
case scenario, you buy too much flaky strudel and have to eat it all yourself.
Bummer.
Perk up your midweek morning with a few jolts of Jittery Joe's java at a Wednesday morning coffee tasting on May 30, courtesy of Alon's Bakery and Market in Virginia Highland. Jittery Joe's will start roasting and pouring it on strong at 10 a.m. Sip several types and pick out a few to fit your a.m. and p.m. coffee moods then purchase some small cans to take with you. According to research, coffee is the number-one source of antioxidants in the American diet. Put that in your cup and drink it. You know what they say, the mo' Joe the merrier!
Silver? Gold? Try green. Alon’s Bakery and Market is marking its 20th anniversary with “20” appreciation savings and gifts for guests. There’s a lot to look forward to given the market’s plentiful array of prepared gourmet items, bakery goods, artisan cheeses, wine, beer and more. Save green when you eat your greens and take 20 percent off the price of Alon’s chef’s choice of salads through May 19 in honor of National Salad Day. Adding to the celebratory list, National Strawberry Month reaps 20 percent off of Alon’s spectacular strawberry marmalade the week of May 27 – June 2. Every Tuesday, guests who spend $20 at Alon’s will receive a complimentary chef’s choice dessert. And, the Dunwoody location slices $5 off the price of pizza on Thursdays (hmm - buy four, save $20). There’s a chance you may take home even more when you throw your name in the free lunch drawing. Alon’s turns 20, and we get the gifts. Lovin’ this yummy idea.

Alon’s Bakery and Market has been an
Atlanta staple for fine foods and
beverages, artisan breads, decadent desserts, gourmet prepared foods, catering
and so much more. On Thursday, May 3, Alon’s will be celebrating two decades of
serving Atlanta’s residents. It may be hard to believe, but
twenty years ago Alon Balshan charged up credit card loans, bought some used
equipment and brought his dad Maurice and three bread recipes into a little shop
in Virginia Highland. Now a day, whether patrons are picking up a
cappuccino and a Cinnamon Stick before work; grabbing a cup of warm Tomato Basil
soup and Roast Beef sandwich for lunch; or buying some Alon’s prepared foods and
a couple desserts for dinner, one thing still holds true – guests receive the
same personal service that Balshan and his father Maurice gave clients back in
May 1992. To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Alon’s Bakery and
Market has special
promotions to offer customers throughout the rest of the year. This birthday party
merits songs, so next week Balshan will be on WRFG 89.3 FM’s “What the Folk”
discussing food and folk music. Pick up a little something at Alon’s and listen
in on Tuesday, May 8 from 8 -10 p.m.
