Get Your Wine Fix at Spice Market Before it's Going, Going, Gone!

Beginning today, it's out with the old and in with the deals at Spice Market in the W Atlanta Midtown. The restaurant is slashing prices on wines that are no longer on the wine list in order to make room for new fall selections and appropriately dubbing it "Going, Going, Gone." Two different wines will be featured each week and both options will be a steal: one will be a wine that is rarely served by the glass and the other is priced at only $5 per glass. Each wine lasts a week or until that stash in the cellar is depleted. What we like most about this deal is it gives us a chance to try out wines without committing to a whole bottle. Up on deck this week are Cakebread Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($19/glass, $70/bottle) and Frei Brothers Chardonnay, Sonoma County ($5/glass, $19/bottle). "Going, Going, Gone" offers will be available at Spice Market through the fall.

Spice Market: In the W Atlanta Midtown, 188 14th Street, NE; 404-724-2550.

Follow Friday – meet our Tweep of the Week @AtlantaWineGuy

Being laid off from a steady day job could lead to some heavy duty whining. In blogster Kevin Glowacki's case, it led to some serious wining -- but not the kind where you drown in your glass. The self-dubbed "vino-gastro-indulgist" put his social media skills to work in the wine and food blog world to post and tweet as Atlanta Wine Guy. Instead of points, he rates wines on a scale of "not for me" to a "classic" to treasure, has lots of wine lists and doles out 140-character-or-less tips on wines and menus. We like his philosophy: "wine...the greatest collaboration of man and nature."

Happy Hour at Il Mulino

Yesterday evening I ventured downtown for the American Institute of Wine and Food Wonderful Wednesday event at Il Mulino. The Italian restaurant, originally out of Greenwich Village in New York City, recently opened in the 191 building on Peachtree. Il Mulino served us a tasty spread of ratatouille, lamb meat balls, bruschetta, melon with prosciutto and a selection of fresh breads. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for dinner but enjoyed the appetizers and glass of wine. Il Mulino will stay on my list of restaurants to try.
