You've been cooped up in the house for the last two days, so why not make up for it by staying out a little later this weekend? Starting tomorrow, No. 246 in Decatur is serving up a new late-night special. For $6, you can fill up on all-you-can-eat Margherita and salami pizzas and take advantage of a full bar menu of cocktails, wines and beers. The offer is available on Friday and Saturday nights at the bar at 10 p.m. with last call at midnight. 

"Atlanta Cooks at Home" and with Melissa Libby at Taste Decatur Book Signing on September 2

 

On Sunday, September 2, from noon until 2 p.m., our very own Melissa Libby will be at Taste as part of the Decatur Book Festival to sign her cookbook "Atlanta Cooks at Home." Come chat, purchase some copies (hint, hostess and holiday gift idea) and check out this quaint culinary shop around the corner from the courthouse in downtown Decatur. Libby's cookbook visits top Atlanta chefs in their "off" hours and shares their tips and recipes for stress-free entertaining at home. 

Other culinary authors scheduled are Krista Reese signing "Atlanta Kitchens:  Recipes from Atlanta's Best Restaurants" on Saturday from noon - 2 p.m.; Hugh Acheson signing "A New Turn in the South: Southern Flavors Reinvented for Your Kitchen" on Saturday from 2:30 - 5 p.m.; and Nathalie Dupree and Cynthia Graubart signing "Southern Biscuits" on Sunday from 3:30 - 6 p.m. Taste is located at 416 Church Street, between Sycamore and Ponce de Leon in Decatur. Seven Hens Brings Worldly Chicken Schnitzel To Emory Area

Swallow that southern pride because at Seven Hens fried chicken is a worldly bird. In Germany, schnitzel is a term of endearment, as in “I’m crazy about you, my little schnitzel,” and in Israel, it tops falafel as the top street food. In Decatur, fried chicken lovers in search of the schnitzel-ed bird for lunch or dinner will find it at fast-casual Seven Hens, recently opened in North Decatur Plaza. Seven Hens Schnitzel is customized to order with suggested recipes and seasonings -- American, Mexican, Italian, French, Chinese, Indian or the design-your-own seasoned Traveler -- and fried crispy-crunchy on the outside and moist and tender inside. To escort bird to mouth, go with a locally baked white or wheat baguette ($7.49), wrap ($7.49), salad ($6.99) or on a platter with two sides ($7.99). Sides include fries, Seven Hens salad and chips are also available separately. Finishing touches are a DIY array of house-made dressings, spreads, sauces, toppings and cheeses inspired by world cuisine. Guests not snatching up schnitzel will find dark meat, vegetarian (tofu) and grilled chicken options, and fountain sodas and bottled drinks are available to quench thirsts. Like our southern staple, Seven Hens schnitzel is a picnic waiting to happen.

Last Chance for Cocktails in the Garden This Season!

We like to think of it as a great way to greet this lovely fall weather, but truthfully, it's the last chance to sip, nosh and stroll through the Atlanta Botanical Garden after hours during one of our favorite summer cocktail parties known as Cocktails in the Garden. Get your fix tomorrow, September 29, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. when No. 246, Decatur's hottest new restaurant, provides tastes of their Italian-inspired specialties. This month's theme, which pairs a specialty cocktail with a plant or garden feature, is "Skylines and Spirits." Admission costs $18.95 per person (free for Garden Members) and also includes DJ tunes. A full cash bar is available as well.
