Here’s the winning entry:
Man, that bacon looks great.
Just look at it there on his plate.
It’s all that I see,
And it’s calling to me,
I don’t care if I ruin our date.

I'm a huge fan of kale - baked, sauteed, in soups, etc. So a delicious and versatile!
Butternut squash - nutty, delicious and versatile!
Looove cooking with butternut squash! So good as a creamy soup with a touch of curry and a wedge of green apple... OR with Italian sausage! Yum!
Pumpkin - pumpkin ravioli and pumpkin desserts are heaven!
As tempted as I am by the glorious greens of fall (I pretty much swoon over bunches of fresh collards), I've got to say that the humble rutabaga wins my heart for most-longed-for autumn vegetable. Like most worthwhile romances, it takes some love to get to the good part, but when you do, cooking the peeled, cubed root in pork broth, you are rewarded with an amber-hued, tender bite of autumn - funky, earthy, porky and comforting.
I'm going to have to say kale because it's so much better than regular lettuce on sandwiches and I can make soup with it.
Also, muscadine grapes are amazing in the fall. I haven't tried any recipes with them yet, though.
Loving Apples right now! Apple Risotto, Apple Tarte Tatin, Caramel Apples, Apple Turnovers, Apple and Fennel Salad.
Lucy Mercer and grayhardeman, you are our winners! Please email us at atlantadish@gmail.com and we'll get you both set up on the list. Congrats!
