Sweet Treats for A Good Cause This Weekend

On Saturday, May 14, Atlanta food bloggers will band together to sell some delicious goodies with the goal of handing over dough raised to Share Our Strength's mission of eradicating childhood hunger and establishing healthy after-school and summer feeding programs.  Summer is an especially critical time for the 17 million children facing hunger in America who will not have school programs in session to feed them over the long break.  The second-annual Atlanta Food Bloggers Bake Sale, organized by Tami Hardeman of Running with Tweezers, will be held at 10 a.m. at Phipps Plaza in conjunction with the Atlanta Luxury Living Show.  The bloggers will be parked in front of Williams-Sonoma in Monarch Court.  For more information, visit the event Facebook page.  Can't make the sale?  You can still help by donating to the Atlanta team online.  Phipps Plaza is located at 3500 Peachtree Road, NE.

Summer Cocktails

As the spring weather in Georgia winds down and I begin dreaming of quality time at the pool and in the sun, I realize that I am in need of the perfect cocktail to accompany my pool time. This morning Tamih from Running with Tweezers posted a recipe (courtesy of MixShakeStir by Danny Meyer) that looked divine and definitely worthy of cocktail hour this spring and summer. Bust out your shakers and give this tasty Mojito a try:

Kumquat Mojitos
•2 1/2 kumquats, halved
•8 fresh mint leaves
•ice
•2 oz. white rum, preferably Myers's
•1 oz. fresh lime juice
•1 oz. Simple Syrup
- Muddle the kumquats and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and the rum, lime juice and simple syrup and shake vigorously. Pour the contents - including the fruit and mint - into a Collins glass and serve.

Souper Soup Challenge

Tami at Running With Tweezers is challenging bloggers to make a deliciously beautiful soup. With the cold weather we have been having the past week, this couldn't come at a better time. Just thinking of all the entries she will see is warming my tummy.

Here are the official rules of the Souper Soup Challenge from Tami herself:

"Post your soup recipe to your blog, journal or website between Friday , February 13th and March 6th, 2009. Please label or indicate that the post is specifically for the Souper Soup Challenge. Once you've posted your recipe, send me an email to runningwithtweezers@gmail.com with the following information: your name, your blog name, your location, the name of your recipe and the hyperlink to the specific post. Your entry will be judged on deliciousness of both taste and appearance. I am a food stylist, after all! The winner will be chosen by a small panel of fellow bloggers. The winner will receive bragging rights and a special food-related prize!"
