While the focus seems to be on turkeys this month, PEI mussels ($13) at 5Church Atlanta “mussel” their way into the picture dressed in a strong suit of flavors. Bravo Media’s Emmy- and James Beard Award-winning “Top Chef” heads to Charleston, South Carolina, for the upcoming season, and 5Church executive chef and partner Jamie Lynch is on board. Lynch battles it out in the kitchen along with eight esteemed chefs from across the country and eight returning chefs – chefs from past seasons who are seeking redemption for not bringing home the “Top Chef” bacon the first time. Lynch oversees operations at all three 5Church locations – Charleston, Charlotte and Atlanta – and he’s splitting his time between Charleston and Atlanta during the competition. Labor Day arrives Monday, September 5, signaling the unofficial start of fall activities. Might as well squeeze in one last weekend of summer fun! Spend it in the grocery store and kitchen? We think not, because some of our favorite eateries are open over the holiday. Keep these Atlanta restaurants in mind if you’re returning from vacation, beat from a day of outdoor activities or just ready to let someone else labor over the stove.

For high-quality steaks and seafood, head to 101 Steak. Vinings’ newest chophouse is open regular hours all weekend and will be open for dinner on Monday from 4-9:30 p.m., offering mouthwatering dishes like the 32-oz. tomahawk chop, East and West Coast oysters and more than 100 wines by the glass.

Newcomer 5Church carries its weekend brunch service over to Monday for a special holiday treat. Cornmeal waffles, Southern fried steak, duck confit with cabbage pancake and more will be on the menu from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., with dinner service in the evening.

5Church to Open in Midtown Atlanta Early 2016, Will Connect Three of the South's Tastiest Towns

5Church, which has an existing location in Charlotte and a second opening in Charleston, will open a Midtown Atlanta location in the first quarter of 2016. The newest venture from restaurateurs Patrick Whalen, Ayman Kamel, Alejandro Torio and Jamie Lynch will be located at 1197 Peachtree Street, NE and will serve lunch and dinner daily along with weekend brunch. Partner and executive chef Jamie Lynch boasts an impressive background -- Le Cirque, Aureole and Café Boulud as well as Blue and Barrington's in Charlotte. His menu will feature some 5Church favorites that have garnered him recognition as Charlotte Magazine's Best Chef for three consecutive years. Look for "60 second" NY strip steak, 5Church lamb burger with red onion marmalade and Gorgonzola fondue as well as locally sourced dishes original to the Atlanta location. A 200-bottle curated wine list and a selection of specialty cocktails and craft beers will complement Lynch's menu. What's in a name? 5Church derives its nomenclature from the location of the group's first restaurant on the corner of 5th and Church in Uptown Charlotte.
